How long does it take to complete the Self-Directed Search?

This SDS is made up of 5 different sections and takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. After you complete the SDS and verify your method of payment, your personalized report will appear on your screen.


Is my personal information secure?

We will not sell or rent any personal information (e.g., e-mail address) to anyone.


Are my results confidential?

All results are completely confidential. You can enter any name, nickname, initials, or other personal identifier in the Name fields on the Demographic Data Screen at the end of the assessment. If you choose to provide a personal identifier, whatever you enter will appear on your report.


How secure is my credit card information?

All credit card information is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for the highest browser security available.

Once your credit card purchase has been approved, you will be connected to the report generation section of the SDS site. This section does not require a secure connection because your credit card information will have already been processed. If your screen displays a message letting you know that you are entering a non-secure site, simply click on “Yes” to proceed.

What type of information is provided in the SDS Report?

  • A description of each of the 6 RIASEC types (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional)

  • Your own 3-letter code (a combination of the 3 RIASEC types that most closely match your interests)

  • An explanation of how you can use your code in your individual career planning

  • A list of the occupations, fields of study, and leisure activities that are consistent with your 3-letter code

  • Next Steps for you to follow in your career exploration and decision-making process
